Maine

Maine!  It's always so great to be back.  Acadia is such a magical place.  I was lucky enough to get to spend 4 days with my Middlebury gals before being met by the kids.  This is the third time I've been fortunate enough to meet up with these lovely ladies.  These four days are so restorative-- I am always inspired and reminded of how lucky I was to wind up at a little school in Vermont for four years while I was becoming an adult.  They remind me of what is important in life-- so much laughter and love and strength.

John and the kids met me at this little slice of heaven on Monday morning.  They had arrived from Camden the previous day and set up camp on the quiet side of the island.  We didn't have much of a plan, but we did try to visit the Natural History Museum at the College of the Atlantic.  Unfortunately, it wasn't open.  Fortunately, we could take our favorite photo on the whale head.

Next we packed a lunch an rode our bikes around Eagle Lake:

We arrived to our campground to a beautiful scene of sail boats and sunshine:

My dear friend, Hester, was also staying on the island for a few more days with her sweetheart, Hudnell.  We had to get to boys together, so we had a cocktail at their Inn while the kids did some crabbing.

It turns out, neither John nor I remembered to bring our passports...... Fortunately, Auntie Lynn and Mark were staying at our house and able to get those into the mail on Monday afternoon.  It would mean that we'd spend an extra day in Acadia.  We were not disappointed about that by any means.  We got to hike to another fire tower-- Beech Mountain-- another favorite.

Hunting for blueberries:

Hitting the Bass Harbor lighthouse in the rain:

Lobster at Thurstons:

Major success with crabbing at Thurston's:

We packed up in the morning, but knew we'd have to wait until 1:30pm to get the passports in the mail.  So we rented kayaks and explored Somes Sound.

Upon our return, we saw some familiar faces.  The Quinn family had just arrived for a short vacation in Acadia.  We shared some stories and parted ways.
