Camel's Hump II

I've been trying to be as unstructured as possible this summer. Most days I get some things done around the house and then ask the kids what they want to do.  They usually choose to go to the playground, library, or on a short hike.  When I asked them if they would rather go to the Sand Bar (beach) or hike a mountain on Friday, in unison, they yelled "Hike Camel's Hump".

I was a little too optimistic about Hazen making it up on his own.  He's only 3 1/2 and while he gave it a solid try, the going was very slow.  He ended up on my back for about 1/3 of the way up, but did do the last .3 miles on his own.

We made it up in 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Even Zephy made it with her cute necklace on.

But this girl did it for the second year in a row-- entirely on her own, packing all her own layers and snacks.

We left the car at 9:30 am and didn't get back to the car until 4pm.  Carrying Hazen on my back most of the way was brutal.  However, both kids were in great spirits and so happy to have been on the top of a mountain on a gorgeous day.
